Introducing our Holy Stones Family,
Mary, Joseph and Jesus hand-painted stones will being going home with congregation members throughout Advent and sharing their adventures with us.
Each week 3 members of the congregation take home one of the Holy Stones, then the following Sunday they bring the stone back along with the story of how they spent their time together.
Joseph Advent adventures
Joseph’s adventures began right after service last Sunday. He had a tour of the sanctuary beginning with sitting with the choir, he had a chance to meet our Organist Bob and wish him well on his coming retirement. Joseph really enjoyed meeting everyone at coffee hour. Before he left for his week, made sure he posed for a family portrait. As the patron saint for workers, carpenters and house buyers and sellers he made sure to accompany his host one the long work day ahead. Joseph then had some time to relax and even got a chance to take his very first ride in a very cool PT cruiser! |
Joseph and the Retreat
Joseph came to the Simcoe St. retreat held at Pickering Village United Church on Sat Nov 26, he had a terrific time participating in the retreat. We did some community building exercises and had worship with communion.

Mary's Adventures
Our Mary had a very cool host, who took her out and about, all over Oshawa. Oh my, the adventures they had. It started with cookies at coffee hour and family portrait before going off. It was a very busy and exciting week! Mary was taken to her first Gens hockey game.
Mary went for coffee at Tim Horton's, shopping at No Frills, Mary went to a Dr Appt, joined her friend as they spent time enjoying the Bible together. She met a beautiful cat, went to dinner and even got a chance to go to a concert.
The highlight of the week was Mary went to a second Gens Game (where they won against Peterborough ) and Mary received a certificate of her very own!

Adventures of Baby Jesus
advent Journal
Sunday – After church Peter and I attended a Brunch hosted by Peter’s financial advisor, whom I got to meet. I’m not sure whether or not I will become a client when I grow up. Brunch was great! Peter ate a lot more than I did.
Monday – This morning Peter and I went to the dentist. Neither of us had any cavities. In the afternoon I joined Peter, Karen Smart, and Daryl Webber for a meeting with a representative from Kindred Works. Peter says that the Transition Team will hear all about it on Sunday evening.
Tuesday – I had a relaxing morning as I watched Peter do laundry and clean up his house. In the afternoon I went with Peter to deliver some Grocery Gift Cards he sold for the church.
Wednesday – This morning Peter and I attended his online exercise class. I watched while Peter did the exercises. I thought Peter could have put more effort into the exercises. This afternoon Peter asked me to help him fix a string of his outside Christmas lights which had died. He asked if I could bring them back to life. I said no. Peter seemed disappointed. I gave the excuse that his faith in my Resurrection Power was not strong enough, but really it was that my ability to bring the dead back to life does not extend to Christmas lights. Peter ended up buying a new string of lights.
Thursday – Today Peter and I went to get flu shots. Peter got the high dose for seniors. I didn’t.
Friday – This was the first day this week that Peter and I did not go for a walk around his neighborhood. However, I think today was the highlight of my week. Peter and I spent most of the day at the church. I got to meet Jennifer, the Church Office Administrator. I supervised while Jennifer and Peter worked on the monthly financials. I also got to meet some of the staff and volunteers who work at Mission United and we had a tour. I got to see where they prepared lunches which they give out to people for free, the medical clinic in the Memorial Hall, and many of the counseling areas. I was very impressed with the work they are doing to assist the poor and to try to help heal the sick. In fact, I think that when I am older I may take up that area of work myself. In the evening Peter and I returned to the Church to check out the Back Door Mission Christmas Concert and Market.
Saturday – This morning Peter and I went grocery shopping. I got to ride in the grocery cart. This afternoon I worked at getting my journal up to date.
Sunday – Every night at Peter’s I slept in what he called a manger scene. It was not overly comfortable but still I felt strangely at home there. We are now off to Church. I have had a very Peace filled week and am now looking forward to the Joy of more adventures next week with another host.
